Born in the state of Guerrero, Mexico, Raquel Garcia is a writer and educator who writes about the immigrant experience. Her writing sheds the white gaze and disrupts the single-story narrative about being undocumented. She lives in Pilsen, a Chicago neighborhood rich in Mexican culture and a long history of fighting back.
She is a proud member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, the Chicagoland chapter of Sisters in Crime, Midwest Chapter of the Mystery Writers of America, and Crime Writers of Color.
In addition, she leads virtual and in-person writing meet-ups and workshops for the Chicago Latino Writers Initiative and is the co-president of the Pilsen Housing Cooperative (PIHCO).
When she is not writing prose, she is writing her doctoral dissertation on creating trauma-informed learning spaces. Find her on Twitter and Instagram at @writeraquel.
